It is unnerving to see a politician fall so hard and seemingly so fast. For more than 30 years, Bob Filner represented San Diegans at the local and then nationwide level. His ascendency to the mayor’s office seemed a fitting end to such a long political career.
But his fall from grace before Donna Frye scheduled a press conference. By the way some tell the story, his boorish behavior started long ago. Perhaps it was just ignored. Perhaps it simply grew worse when he assumed the power of the mayor’s office.
We, of course, knew Bob was a scrappy, take-no-crap kind of guy from his campaign. He was everywhere, and everywhere he went he had no problem criticizing his opponent. He was brush and difficult.
Some predicted he was so acerbic that he would fall from grace and be forced to leave office early.
