Later this year, Petco Park will be home to a game that features a bigger ball. It'll host a basketball game, one between San Diego State University and University of San Diego.
(One wonders: Can fans keep any basketballs that go into the stands?)
This is actually the second time that SDSU has played in a unique setting. A few years ago, it played the Syracuse Orange on the flight deck of the USS Midway aircraft carrier. State lost 62 to 49. (An angry Coach Steve Fisher had players swab the deck …)
SDSU apparently enjoys experimenting with unique settings for hoops. We couldn't help but ponder …
What might be next:
Qualcomm Stadium? Nope. Apparently, nobody likes playing there, certainly not the NFL.
Sea World? Probably not. PETA would likely protest.
The Ocean Beach Pier? That would be great, but unfortunately it's not wide enough.
La Jolla Shores? Set up a court on the beach? Possible. Can't play at high tide, though.
PB? Beer sponsors would come running, most certainly.
Marine Corps Recruit Depot? Drill instructors would make great refs, though game would be interrupted often with players being forced to do push-ups.
The Zoo? If the ball goes into the lion's cage, game over.
